Firsts and things I have learned in the past couple days in a nutshell:
-Walking across the street and looking LEFT before looking RIGHT. No only do Australians drive on the opposite side of the road but the steering wheel is located on the right side, where in the US, the passenger would sit.
-Pet, hug, and feed a kangaroo.
-Pet, cuddle, and hold a koala.
-Talk to an actual aborigine and throw a real boomerang and spear. -Scuba dive on Paradise Reef, Great Barrier Reef. -Learned that people from New Zealand refer to themselves at their country bird, “Kiwi.” -Ate and alligator salad. -When an Australian asks you “How you going?” they mean “How are you doing?” -When you are called a “Chickadee” by an Australian, it’s a compliment. -Australian “Colleges” are the same thing as American Dormitories. Each college is kind of like a different Fraternity or Sorority. -Australians call Universities “Uni’s” -Don’t say “Fanny” pack because it means vagina. -Don’t say you “root” for a team because that means you have sex with them. -Don’t laugh with an Aussie says “Bloody $&*#.” Its kind of their way of cursing! In cases such as “Bloody Hell” “Bloody Fucker” etc. To get back to the main page you press the close button in the corner (X) Below is a little information on the time and weather where I am, the school I am attending, and about me! about the school I am attending
JCU

James Cook University is Australia's leading tropical research university. It takes its name from the eighteenth century British navigator and explorer Captain James Cook, whose epic voyages in contributed significantly to the world of science. The University was proclaimed in Townsville on 20 April 1970, two hundred years after Cook charted the eastern seaboard of Australia. JCU is a multi-campus university with the main sites located in the vibrant tropical Queensland cities of Townsville and Cairns. JCU's main sites are located in tropical northern Queensland, a remarkable region where over a million visitors come each year to experience two World Heritage listed natural wonders: the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforests of the Wet Tropics. The region is also the gateway to the scenic Atherton Tablelands, Cape York and the historic Queensland outback.

a little about me

In case you dont know me, my name is Elizabeth Goettee (Liz) and I am from Marietta, Georgia - USA. I am currently a student at Western Carolina University in North Carolina but I am attending James Cook University in Townsville starting February until the end of June. My major is "Studio Art in Photography." Not only do I have a love for photography but I also enjoy doing web design and graphic design. It will be very difficult to be away from close friends and family for half a year. I hope to keep in touch with my friends every bit that I can. In the past year as I have matured I have finally been able to create a close bond with my family. They will be even harder to leave behind. In November, I became a proud new Aunt of a beautiful baby girl named Emma Angeline. I am saddened that I will not have the chance to watch her grow during her first year of life. I wish my sister and her husband the best of luck with their newborn while I am away. Its funny, I’m not afraid of the 15-hour flight to Australia but I am afraid of leaving my friends and family. But I guess that’s life and I’m ready for what it has to throw at me! I think I am at a point of my life where I am prepared to step out of my comfort zone. The only awareness I have of the Australian culture is through photographs. I doubt any photograph can completely encompass what Australia is all about. I can’t wait to meet her people, see her art, visit her rainforests, and lay on her beaches. I am quite an adventurous person so I hope to do some skydiving, surfing, along with other sports that define Australia’s culture. By the time you read this I am probably in completely different climate conditions enjoying the sun, people, and wild life while taking breathtaking photographs. I’m VERY excited and grateful to have this experience of a lifetime! I hope everyone takes the time to read and view my pictures and leaves plentiful amounts of comments!
